Grace and Peace!  My name is Eddie Kirby and I thank you for your interest in our church's website.  It is an extremely exciting time in the life of Poplar Head UMC, however, I assume because you've clicked the "About Our Pastor" hyperlink that you want to know a little something about me.

I was born in Washington D.C. December 1973, reared in Pensacola Florida, spent four years in the Navy, earned a Bachelor's degree from William Carey University and a Master's from Duke University.  I worked as a parish minister all the way through college and graduate school.  The pretty lady beside me in the picture above is my wife who also happens to be my angel on loan from God.  She and I have five beautiful children.  They are all ours biologically and no twins.  Up top they are youngest to oldest, left to right: Duke, Chloe, Mosie, Jeremy and Eddie Jr.

I felt God asking me for the direction of my life when I was about nine.  As a child, however, I was a bit rebellious and remember thinking to God, "There are many things I want to try and if I give you the direction to my life now I know you will not let me try them."  Pretty bold!  After some years of trying what I wanted, being lead by my own sense of purpose I found myself going to no-where's end fast.  Early one morning, about 3 a.m., I came to my senses and cried out to God.  I simply told Him that if He would get me out of the mess I had gotten myself into I would surely give Him the direction to my life.  Little did I know that His direction for me was to be a pastor.  The rest of the story is a bit too long to tell here, however, the realities of the presence and strength of God that resurrected my life from ashes to beauty are the thrust behind my Sunday morning messages.

May God bless your journey in this crazy experience we call life.

In Christ,

Bro. Eddie
